Basic Tour Description
Participants arrive on Monday of the week. Tour starts Monday afternoon and ends Thursday afternoon. Participants may leave Thursday evening (or later).
Tours are custom-made based on what tour groups want to see. We provide the basic options available and then we’ll customize the tour based on your needs. We attempt to get at least one local DOT representative to meet with the tour group at a location to give a description of that particular project.
Discussion at site locations includes geometric features, traffic operations, and observing driver behavior. Discussions are open and honest with constructive criticism welcomed. While traveling, discussions include more general discussions of DDIs and other innovative intersections.
Travel Logistics
Each participant is responsible for arranging their own flights. Tours generally start and end at a major airport.
We generally stay at Marriott or Hilton brand hotels that have available government rates, free breakfasts, and refrigerators in the rooms. There will be a designated hotel for the tour each night, but we will provide information for other hotels within walking distance. It is the participants’ responsibility to book the hotel rooms.
Breakfasts will generally be in the hotel. Lunch will usually be at an inexpensive ($) location such as fast food, but we also look for locations near supermarkets for those who want or need more options. We try as best as possible to have dinners at sit-down restaurants as a full tour group. Restaurants are generally chosen in the affordable range ($$-$$$), but if the tour group unanimously wants to upgrade the restaurant location, we will accommodate.
